BIRMINGHAM, AL, February 9, 2026 – The Housing Authority of the Birmingham District (HABD) will open its waiting list and begin accepting applications for Public Housing and Tax Credits for units at Tuxedo Terrace I & II Apartments. The upcoming announcement applies to one (1) to four (4) bedroom units only. Applications will be accepted from Monday, February 23, 2026, beginning at 8:00 AM and closing on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 4:00 PM.
Applicants must visit habd.org to apply. Paper applications can be obtained at the business center of the Tuxedo Terrace Apartments located at 2025 Avenue Q, Birmingham, AL 35218. Paper applicants must return the completed application and any additional required forms with a postmarked date no later than March 6, 2026.

The Public Housing / Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program is designed to offer affordable housing to only those who meet specific requirements. State housing agencies regulate the process to ensure only qualified residents reside at Tuxedo Terrace Apartments. There is a strict maximum income requirement where income cannot exceed 60% of the county’s area median income. Rents are not subsidized and residents typically pay market rate for a tax credit.
