HABD’s leadership has continued to develop and grow programs, offerings and partnerships that help to promote self-sufficiency, empowerment and quality of life for personal and community success. Birmingham has the largest public housing authority in Alabama, serving more than 10,000 people. The mission of HABD is to be the leader in making excellent, affordable housing available for low and moderate-income persons through effective management and wise stewardship of public funds. HABD will also partner with our residents and others to enhance the quality of life in our communities.
The Housing Authority of the Birmingham District (HABD) is suspending the one (1) bedroom Waiting List for Public Housing until further notice.
DATE & TIME CLOSED: Effective Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at 8:00 am
Public Notice will be provided when HABD re-opens the specific bedroom size.
The Waiting List is routinely closed when the anticipated time for certain sized units exceeds 12 months. The current wait is over 24 months. Applications will continue to be taken for 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 bedrooms. HABD will provide reasonable accommodations to individuals or families who require assistance. All interested applicants should go to the website www.habd.org to apply online or call (205) 521-7805 to request a paper application.
