Hcv Homeownership

The Housing Authority of the Birmingham District (HABD) offers an innovative Housing Choice Voucher (HCV)/Section 8 Homeownership Program designed to help eligible voucher holders transition from renting to owning a home. This program allows qualified participants to use their housing assistance toward monthly mortgage payments instead of rent, creating a pathway to long-term financial stability and asset building.

Key features of the program include:

  • Homebuyer education and counseling
  • Eligibility screening and pre-purchase readiness support
  • Budgeting, credit counseling, and financial planning resources
  • Assistance with securing mortgage financing
  • Post-purchase support to ensure successful homeownership

The program is open to first-time homebuyers who meet income, employment, and credit criteria. Elderly and disabled participants may qualify with different requirements. Through this initiative, HABD empowers families to build equity, achieve self-sufficiency, and gain greater independence through homeownership.
