Magic City Housing Development Corporation

About The Program

The Magic City Housing Development Corporation, a 501©(3) subsidiary of HABD, was established in the early 2000s to serve as the arm of the agency committed to real estate acquisition and new affordable housing development.

NAOMI H. TRUMAN SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION

The Naomi H. Truman Scholarship Foundation was first named the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District Scholarship Foundation. In 2017, the Board of Directors voted to change the name to honor Truman, who was a former executive director for HABD. She founded the organization and served as its first president. Originally established in 2012, the Foundation awards scholarships to students residing in Public Housing or participating in the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) program and seek to further their education but face financial barriers in doing so. We have awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships to deserving residents for their education at an accredited college or university or with an accredited trade school/program.
