Homeownership

The HABD Homeownership Program offers affordable homeownership opportunities for low- and moderate-income families. The program builds new homes on selected HABD-owned sites or acquires existing homes in targeted neighborhoods. Preference is given to HABD public housing residents and Section 8 participants who apply and qualify.

LIVING LEGACY HOMEOWNERSHIP PROGRAM

The HABD Homeownership Program offers affordable homeownership opportunities for low and moderate-income families. The Homeownership Program currently has homes in the Tuxedo Terrace and Mason City areas for sale. The program also builds new homes on selected HABD-owned sites or acquires existing homes in targeted neighborhoods to be renovated. The Homeownership Program is open to all qualified public housing

residents, Section 8 residents, or other low- and moderate-income families as provided below. Preference is given to first, public housing residents; second, Section 8 residents; third, low- and moderate-income families of the public.


Eligibility Requirements

  1. Minimum annual income of $15,000 but less than 80% of the median family income for the Birmingham Metropolitan Area ($75,500).
  2. Acceptable rental payment history and reasonably good credit for the past two years (Minimum credit score of 620)
  3. Must be a first-time homebuyer as defined by HUD
  4. Homebuyer must be a US citizen
  5. Must attend a Homebuyer Education Seminar through a Housing Counseling Agency
