SMITHFIELD COURT

Built as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s “New Deal”, Smithfield Court opened its doors to Birmingham residents in 1937.  This 456-unit site comprised of studio 1, 2, and 3-bedroom homes, is located next door to Birmingham’s historic A.H. Parker High School and sits in the middle of Birmingham’s historic Smithfield community – one of the South’s premier residential neighborhoods for African-American professionals developed in the first-half of the 20th century.  Smithfield Court provides activities for all ages from after-school tutoring and summer camps for its children, to the Smithfield Walking Club and nutrition center for adult residents.
